I’m so excited to be here on XO, Alexis today. My name is Taylor and I have a lifestyle blog where I mainly talk about books and motherhood. You can find my most recent post here.
I became a mom at the beginning of 2018 and it has been an adjustment for me! I wish I could say that all parts of motherhood have come easily to me, but that wouldn’t be true. The first few months of being a new mom were especially hard as we all adjusted to being parents and having a baby. Looking back though, there were a few things that really made a big difference in my life and I’m sharing those with you today.
Four things a new mom should do every day:
Make your bed
I know, it sounds simple but this really does help. I know that as a new mom I was doing so much every day by just keeping myself and my baby fed and alive but it didn’t always feel like that! Making an effort to make your bed every day will help you feel like you’re doing something around the house and it feels so good to have a freshly made bed!
Get up and move your body
Exercise is so important for your overall health and your mental health. Even if all you do today is ten jumping jacks or a couple of sit-ups or have a mini dance party you are moving and that is so good! Now that it’s getting warmer I’m hoping to start going on walks more during the day (this gets me moving and out of the house) but whenever you start to feel overwhelmed or discouraged, get up and move. Even for a few seconds. Your mind and body will thank you.
Do one thing for yourself every day
I really struggled with this at the beginning of my daughter’s life. I was dedicated to giving her 100% but I was getting burned out. Obviously those first few weeks you should rest as much as you can, but once you start to get more settled (and more sleep) do one thing for yourself every day. It doesn’t have to be big either. I started with reading for five minutes because I love to read. But you could soak in the tub, listen to music, or simply rest! Making time for you, even for a few minutes really will make a difference in your life.
Reach out + talk to people
If you’re a stay at home mom like me, you might start feeling lonely. You’ve got this tiny adorable human but they can’t talk yet. You have your spouse, but they may be gone most of the day. Join a moms group. Call a friend. Text someone. Make sure you’re talking to someone daily! I’m so glad I did this because it helped me feel less lonely.
PIN FOR LATER!
These are just some things that you can do every day to improve your mental health and make motherhood more enjoyable.
