Hey Friends! It’s been a quick minute since I’ve shared a life lately update. Summer is always a whirlwind of events- vacations, birthday parties, festivals, etc. Since summer is coming to an end, I thought it’d be fun to share with you what all we’ve been up to over the last couple of months.
Life Lately Vol 4:
Hilton Head Family Vacation //
For a week in June, Brad, Henry, and I went on a family vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with my parents and sister. We stayed in a condo in the Sea Pines, which is near Harbor Town and the beach. The best way to get around the island was by bike and it was so much fun to ride around on bikes. The restaurants that we went to were all delicious. Some of our favorites were The Salty Dog Cafe, Frosty Frog’s, and Skull Creek (everyone’s favorite). We spent a lot of time at the beach and at the pool- the perfect, relaxing vacation.
Day Trip to Savannah //
While on vacation, the six of us took a drive to Savannah, GA. Savannah was only about an hour away from Hilton Head so it was the perfect distance to go cross another destination off our travel bucket list. Speaking of travel bucket list, is this something you would like to see?? The day that we went was, of course, the hottest day of vacation. Brad and I would like to go back when it’s winter here in Ohio. There is still so much to see in Savannah.
Pool Days //
Henry is all about the water. So we spent a lot of time in the pool. We took turns going to Brad’s Aunt and Uncle’s pool, my Aunt and Uncle’s pool, and my sister’s (they bought a kiddie pool for Henry and their dog). Henry loved floating around, splashing, and just relaxing in the water. He was not a fan of people going under the water.
House Warming Cookout //
Brad and I celebrated our new home by hosting friends for a house warming party. We wanted a chance to host all of friends and remind them that even though we don’t go out and do things like we used to, our house is always open to them.
Henry Turned 1 //
On July 25, Henry turned 1. I can’t believe that my son is a year old. He has changed so much in the past almost 14 months. I love that I get to spend all day with him. Each and every day he amazes me by his physical, development, and mental changes. If time could just slow down, that would be fantastic.
Annual Lake Festival //
Each year, our town has their annual Lake Festival which is always a big deal. On Friday, the streets are filled with vendor tents and sidewalk sales, car show, and the largest gathering of Ampicars (cars that turn into boats). Saturday is another big day. The car show moves up town, the high school football team as a lift-a-thon, and in the evening there is a huge parade that is usually an hour and a half to two hours long. Before the parade starts, someone usually hosts a cookout. For the past 4 years, we’ve hosted a cookout since the parade used to go behind our old house. Now that we moved, my sister decided to host a cookout/house warming party. Then Brad, Henry, and I went to our friends’ house to watch the parade.
Mercer County Fair //
Another fun event that we always look forward to is the county fair. Last year Henry was two a few weeks old so we were only able to go one day. This year we went a lot 3 or 4 times. Henry had so much fun petting the animals. Goats are his favorite. We also watched the horse races, cow shows, and Henry got to ride a pony which he loved.
Football Season Ready //
If you are new here, you should know that I love football season. There’s nothing more exciting to me then spending Friday night at the high school football game, waking Saturday to watch College Game Day, watching college football all day Saturday, and finishing the weekend watching NFL on Sunday. This year I broke down and bought myself a Baker Mayfield flag to hang on during the Cleveland Browns games. Last week’s game was a total embarrassment, which Browns fans are used to, but hopefully tonight’s game will be better.
Henry Got His First Hair Cut //
Our big boy got his first hair cut. His curls were getting a bit out of control so it was time to give them a chop. I can’t believe how much older it made him look.
Baking Season Has Begun //
There’s nothing I quite enjoy more than baking season when fall is near. I’m that girl who is all about pumpkin everything. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies-give them all to me. Labor Day weekend I whipped up 2 pumpkin pies (1 for my Grandpa and 1 for my Father-in-Law) and 144 pumpkin cookies (1/3 for my in-Laws, 1/3 for Brad to take on a Bachelor Party trip, and 1/3 for me to take home to my parents). I’m hoping to have a fall baking roundup done by the 2nd week of October.
Weekend Trips to Grandma and Grandpa’s //
Henry and I went to my parents while Brad was on a Bachelor Party trip over Labor Day Weekend. We will be heading back there this week as I’m helping my mom with a garage sale. Then next week, Henry will be going while Brad and I go to Wisconsin.
Henry the Chef //
Brad and Henry have been spending time together in the kitchen. Henry loves to stand on stool and help Brad. One evening they peeled potatoes for dinner. Then another evening Henry made hand prints in the pizza crust dough he helped Brad make. It’s so fun to watch Henry help. We need to find a better stool for him to stand at in the kitchen.
Family Time //
90% of our time is spent just the 3 of us enjoying family time. When our weekends aren’t busy, Brad, Henry, and I just like to be with each other. We play with Henry, go for walks, and settle down for the night on the couch with a movie. Henry has been refusing to sleep in his crib unless he falls asleep with us first. So we put a Disney movie on, wait 15-20 minutes, and he’s out. With Henry fighting a cold the last week or so, him not wanting to fall asleep in his crib was a battle we didn’t want to fight. Plus, he’s just growing so fast that Brad and I want to soak in as many cuddles as we can get.
Fall Decorating //
Again, if you are new around here, you should know that I love fall. I have a fall birthday (October 18) so I feel like I’ve been doing the whole ‘I love fall’ far before it was the cool thing to do. This year I decorated around August 15. After spending the first 3 months in our house remodeling and not having it put together, I jumped on the chance to decorate early. We were finally at a stopping point in our remodeling process so instead of getting out my summer/day-to-day decorations, I decided to just decorate for fall. What’s the point of unpacking just to repack and redecorate in a couple weeks.
I’m not going to lie though, I love having my fall decor out. The colors and scented candles just make my home feel so warm and cozy. The area that we live is having a shortage on pumpkins since we had such awful weather this spring, many farmers had to completely replant their pumpkins, so I still need to get real pumpkins to decorate with. Once I get some pumpkins and more mums I’ll be able to film and share with you a fall home tour.
Playtime At The Farm //
There’s a local, family-owned farm about 20 minutes from our house that we love to visit. In the fall, the farm offers apples, pumpkins, seasonal items, and a barn full of goats, chickens, sheep, kittens, bunnies and cows. We learned at the fair that Henry is obsessed with farm animals, especially the goats, sheep, and cows. This past weekend we went to the farm twice. Friday with my mom and Sunday with Brad. At the farm, they have 4 bottle-fed goats that are 3 weeks old. Henry couldn’t get enough of them and he kept giving them hugs. He also ran towards the cows yelling ‘COW’, which was the first time he had said that word. If we would’ve let him, he would have climbed the fence into the cow pen and crawled through the sheep pen fence (which he tried to do).
We finished our trip to the farm Sunday by taking a horse-drawn wagon ride. The horses they use are 2 older horses that are a breed that is a step down from a Clydesdale (the Budweiser horses). Henry was able to pet the horses and thank them for a ride. He has absolutely no fear when it comes to farm animals, which makes this mama so proud.
PIN FOR LATER!
Well that’s been our life lately. Some big things, some small things, but that’s our life. I love just spending our time together as a family and soaking up Henry in this stage of life. I’ll try and do these life lately updates more often, hopefully once a month. I’d love to hear from you!
What’s life lately been life for you?
