The holidays are rapidly approaching and if you are having any sort of guests this season, now is the time to start thinking about your home. It’s time to start thinking about getting your home holiday ready so you aren’t throwing stuff in closets when guests arrive.
Getting Your Home Holiday Ready:
It’s inevitable that your home is going to end up cluttered. Whether it’s papers, like bills or kids’ school work, or clothes that don’t fit anymore, clutter happens. You should be decluttering every season but it’s important to start decluttering before you expect guests. By decluttering ahead of time, you’re least likely to shove items that don’t have homes in a closet.
*Tip: To help prevent items lying around and cluttering up your home, ensure that each item has a home. Papers should have file folders, clothes that don’t fit should go into a basket that gets sold/donated each season, home decor has storage if it’s not being used, etc.
Stock Up On Cleaning Supplies //
There is nothing worse than going to start cleaning, only to realize that you ran out of cleaner. To make sure that this doesn’t happen to you, stock up. My favorite way to stock up on cleaning supplies is to use Grove. Grove is a monthly subscription service that delivers natural home, beauty, and personal care products to your doorsteps. What’s great about Grove, besides the fact that they provide all-natural items, is that you can adjust your shipments. Grove has brands such as Babyganics, Burt’s Bees, Earth Mama Organics, Larry’s Coffee, Method, Mrs. Meyer’s, Schmid’s Natural Deodorant, Seventh Generation, Tom’s of Maine, and Yes To, just to name a few brands that are available.
*Tip: Stock up quarterly to keep your supply from running out.
Deep Clean //
Now that you have all of your cleaning products, it’s time to deep clean. Before you start, map out what all needs to be cleaned by breaking it down per room and what all needs to be cleaned: wipe down walls, dust, clean furniture, sweep, etc. Deep cleaning is an all-day chore so it should be done at least monthly.
*Tip: Schedule deep cleaning on your calendar as an appointment so you know that that day is off limits to anything else.
Now that your home has been deep cleaned, it’s super important to maintain your home. Spend 20-30 minutes each evening picking up your house, putting items in their homes, wiping down countertops, and sweeping if your home needs it. If you don’t maintain your home, the need to deep clean will only increase. Plus, when you maintain your home, it’s not that big of deal when guests stop by unnanounced, your house is already in good shape.
Tip: Assign certain tasks/chores to everyone in your house. This ensures more things will get done in that 20-30 minutes window.
Bring Out (and clean) Your Seasonal Serveware & Dishes //
Your home is now cleaned and almost ready for the holidays. All that is left is to bring out all of your seasonal serveware and dishes. Make sure to get everything scrubbed and shiny so when your guests arrive, all you have to do is grab them out of the cupboards or wipe them off (instead of letting your guests see the thick dust that builds up.
Use Holiday Scents //
Fortunately, it’s also the time of year when Mrs. Meyer’s holiday scents return. Not only do they look and smell festive, but they also make the task of cleaning and doing dishes a lot more enjoyable!
This year, Mrs. Meyer’s is bringing back three crowd favorites: Iowa Pine, Peppermint, and Orange Clove. I’ve been waiting all year for Iowa Pine to return because the crisp and spicy scent fills the entire house with wonderful smells of Christmas trees.
Right now, you can get a free Mrs. Meyer’s trio in your choice of scents, plus a free set of Grove Collaborative walnut scrubber sponges — all packed up in a limited edition red cleaning caddy for gifting (or keeping!).
New customers will get the holiday set when you place your first order of $20:
- Free Mrs. Meyer’s holiday hand soap
- Free Mrs. Meyer’s holiday dish soap
- Free Mrs. Meyer’s holiday multi-surface spray
- Grove Collaborative red caddy
- Grove Collaborative walnut scrubber sponges
Plus, if you spend $39, you’ll also receive a free Grove stoneware tray to beautifully display your new holiday soaps.
If you’re already a Grove customer, you’ll get a free set of Grove walnut scrubbers — perfect for cleaning up after baking cookies or pumpkin pie.
This beautiful red caddy is everything you need to organize your home for the holidays! While you could go the traditional route and use it to store your cleaning supplies, it would also make a great gift wrapping station stocked with tape, ribbons, markers, and tags. Or, wrap your silverware in napkins, secure with a napkin ring, and place them in the caddy for your holiday buffet.
Best Way to Use Mrs. Meyers //
Speaking of holiday buffets, there’s no shortage of dirty dishes this time of year. Fortunately, Mrs. Meyer’s dish soap is perfect for tackling tough messes. Put a drop in your roasting pan or crockpot and watch grease disappear!
Of course, no kitchen or bathroom is complete without Mrs. Meyer’s hand soap. I get tons of compliments on these scents, and the cheerful bottles are an easy way to spruce up your sink-side display.
Another holiday hosting must-have is Mrs. Meyer’s multi-surface cleaner. It’s ideal for those last-minute cleanups before guests arrive. You only need one product for countertops, walls, bathroom fixtures, and wood or tile floors. Plus, it leaves your entire home smelling like the holidays.
Since the holiday season is also flu season, I always keep the multi-surface spray on hand for wiping down faucets, doorknobs, and other surfaces that get touched all the time.
Grove Collaborative is also an essential for me during the busy holiday season! Grove hand-selects the best natural products and delivers them (carbon offset) right to your doorstep, on your schedule. Don’t forget to stock up on hand soap, toilet paper, and paper towels before your guests arrive!
